NEW EDITIONS: JAKE GARFIELD

Atelier Ji are delighted to present a new series of lithographs from Jake Garfield. Garfield’s work explores various roles and functions of masks throughout our lives, from facial hair and make-up to the worlds of clowning and drag. Garfield starts by drawing a series of mono prints. Each mono print is then used to create a lithographic matrix allowing for the disparate layers to be printed in Garfield’s custom palette, derived from the commercial c.m.y.k. method of printing. The result is a familiar portrait of celebrity and an anonymous portrait of the artist.

Graduating from the Royal College of Art in the summer of 2016, Jake Garfield received the Printmakers Council Prize. In 2013 Garfield was awarded the Printmaking Prize by The Royal Drawing School’s post-graduate programme.
