This collaboration with Atelier Ji reflects the artist's interest in the connections between the imaginative state of children and that of their adult counterparts, following Donald Winnecott's ideas about maintaining imaginative play into adulthood.

The series was prompted by a nightly LEGO-building routine between the artist's son and partner. She observed how the imaginative reach of the child could engender a cooperative response in the adult enabling the adult to partially rediscover a childlike seriousness for the subject.

Lego was used to etch a pattern of dots onto copper plates, and a series of large monoprints were made of the sofa, bed and the fountains in a local park - common objects in the landscape of children's play. The smaller etchings employ digitally printed chine-colle to combine these real and imagined landscapes.

The etchings depict a fountain in a child’s play park as a cartoon-like bubble shape and in another image the structure of the bathroom has been replaced with an alternative vista. All that remains of the overflowing bathtub is the shape and reflection of the water.

Katherine has been the recipient of numerous prizes most recently the London Original Print Fair Prize at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2014 and Printmaking Today prize at the RE 2014. She has also been invited to be the next artist in residence at Eton College this year.
